The Michael Jackson biopic will be released in 2025

The movie’s distributor, Lionsgate, said on Thursday that the biographical picture of Michael Jackson, titled Michael, will hit theaters on April 18, 2025. Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson will portray the King of Pop in the film.
Antoine Fuqua, who helmed several films last year, including Emancipation, Southpaw, and the Equalizer trilogy, directed the biopic. The Jackson estate has approved the film, and Jackson’s executors John McClain and John Branca, as well as Graham King, the producer of the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, are producing Michael. John Logan, the screenwriter behind Gladiator, Rango and Hugo, created the film’s screenplay.

“The global premiere of Michael Jackson’s biopic “Michael” is scheduled for April 18, 2025″

According to the film’s premise, “‘Michael’ will offer fans a fascinating and honest portrayal of the brilliant yet complicated guy who became the King of Pop.” “The film presents his successes and failures in a broad, cinematic manner, highlighting everything from his human side and personal struggles to his undeniable creative genius, which is best exemplified by his most well-known parts. Unlike anything they have ever seen before, audiences will receive an up-close and personal look at one of the most influential and inventive artists in history.”

Despite the controversies that dogged his career, Michael Jackson is still recognized as one of the greatest-selling and most influential artists of all time. It is unclear how the Jackson estate-approved initiative would handle the multiple allegations of child sexual abuse against Jackson that surfaced both during his lifetime and after his death. Jackson and his estate have repeatedly denied the allegations, which were further investigated after the 2019 documentary Leaving Neverland was released.

“Lionsgate Has Announced the Michael Jackson Biopic, Starring Jaafar Jackson, to Be Released”

Worldwide distribution of Michael, the biopic about Michael Jackson starring Jaafar Jackson as the pop icon, is planned. The movie will be released domestically by Lionsgate on April 18, 2025, and internationally by Universal.
The film, written by John Logan and produced by Bohemian Rhapsody’s Graham King, follows the complicated life of the multifaceted man who overcomes adversity and triumphs to become the King of Pop, highlighting his humanity, struggles in his personal life, and creative brilliance. Co-executors of the Michael Jackson estate are producers John McClain and John Branca.

Among those involved in the production are Oscar-winning director of photography Dion Beebe, visual effects supervisor Louis Morin, sound and music supervisor John Warhurst, makeup artist Bill Corso, Oscar-nominated hair stylist Carla Farmer, choreographers Rich + Tone, and more than 420 others.
Deadline first revealed Michael’s story in November 2019, following the reunion of King and Logan, who worked together on Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator. King acquired all of the multi-platinum artist’s songs by obtaining the movie rights from the Michael Jackson estate. The movie landed at Lionsgate in February 2022.

The Michael Jackson biopic, directed by Antoine Fuqua, will open in theaters in April 2025

Jaafar Jackson, Michael Jackson’s 27-year-old nephew, was chosen for the main part in January of last year. Son of solo artist and former member of the Jackson 5, Jermaine Jackson, is the singer-songwriter. Since he was twelve years old, Jaafar has been singing and dancing. In addition to covering songs by singers like Marvin Gaye and Sam Cooke, he has also played original music.
Fuqua said in an EW interview, “It’s amazing how much he looks like Michael. Sounds like him, Dances like him. It’s really unsettling. When amazing producer Graham King found him and brought him to my attention, I was blown away.”

Michael Jackson’s biography, according to Fuqua, will tell the King of Pop’s story “as we know it” and tackle some of the scandals the singer was embroiled in when he was alive. Fuqua thinks his picture will not follow the common practice of musical giants’ estates controlling the presentation of their movie narrative.
“Just to share the knowledge that currently exists about the artist, the person, and the human race. Fuqua said in the interview, “You know, the good, the terrible, and the ugly.”
“I’m so honored to tell Michael’s story,” King stated in a statement released today. After a lengthy trip, I’m thrilled that the movie will provide viewers with a never-before-seen viewpoint on Michael.”

Adam Fogelson, chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, went on, “There’s no questioning that Michael Jackson was one of the greatest entertainers of all time. His impact on movies, music, fashion, art, culture, and many other areas was immense and still has a significant impact today. I can’t wait for this film to hit theaters next year, anywhere in the world.”
The Exorcist: The Deceiver, a film by Universal/Blumhouse/Morgan Creek, was supposed to be released in the spring before this. A new director is currently being sought for The Exorcist: The Believer ($136.2M) sequel; David Gordon Green, who helmed the last movie, is currently directing Ben Stiller’s Nutcrackers and the fourth season of HBO’s comedy series The Righteous Gemstones.
