Ivan Toney scores with genius free-kick just 19 minutes into his first Brentford game in eight months as he grabs shirt from crowd for emotional tribute celebration

Just 19 minutes into his first game back from suspension, Ivan Toney scored a free kick for Brentford, making the ideal comeback.

  • After an eight-month suspension, Toney is back.
  • Star of Brentford scored with a free kick.
  • made a celebratory gesture with his shirt.

Consequently, what happened?

After serving an eight-month suspension for breaking betting rules, the striker is back. Three minutes in, Nottingham Forest had taken the lead. Toney levelled the score with a low free kick, honouring his uncle with a shirt raise as he celebrated.

It said on the shirt, “For you, Uncle Brian.”

Toney is playing in his first game of the season following a lengthy suspension. Arsenal has expressed interest in the 27-year-old forward, who scored 20 goals in 33 Premier League games last season. However, Brentford wants to hang on to their star player, and it’s said they will need to spend over ¬£80 million ($102 million) to acquire him this month.

According to Opta Sports, Toney has now scored three direct free kicks in the Premier League since the beginning of the previous season, out of just ten attempts. James Ward-Prowse, who scored three goals from 25 tries, is the only player to have equaled that record in the same amount of time.

Now that he is playing again with the Bees, Toney will be looking to return to peak form. However, when the January transfer window closes, Thomas Frank’s team might have to decline some sizable offers.
