The AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run, the greatest running event in the Midlands, returns this Sunday with a fresh new course, and the second city will come alive with excitement.
Over 500 Mini and Junior runners will compete in a Royal Run in a city-center race fit for a king as part of this year’s Bank Holiday Weekend celebration of the Coronation.
Weekend celebration of the Coronation. Adults will also participate in the well-attended events as the 10k and half marathon distances return with new and better routes through the heart of Birmingham’s City Centre and south.
The new 10k and half marathon routes, which start at Centenary Square and travel through the Jewellery Quarter, Grand Central at New Street station, St. Martin’s Church at Bullring, picturesque Cannon Hill Park, and Edgbaston Stadium for the 13.1-mile run, will highlight the best of Birmingham’s downtown and beyond.
At the Smithfield location near Bullring, site of the beach volleyball and basketball competitions for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, both the 10k and half marathon races enjoy a grandstand finale and charity village.
More than 20,000 spectators are anticipated to line the course for the 10k and half marathon, giving passing runners fist bumps and high-fives. Participants can look forward to amazing sights and incredible support the entire time.
“We wish you the very best of luck and hope you enjoy the unique atmosphere of a Great Run event,” the statement reads. “Whether the thousands of participants who have signed up and will be participating for a personal best, a charity fundraiser, or just a fantastic, buzzing, day out.”
The inspiring mass participation races that make up the Great Run Series can significantly improve people’s physical and mental well-being, according to Charlie Musson, brand and PR director at AJ Bell. We want individuals to feel good about their investments, and we think running can do the same in their overall life.

To inspire them for the task ahead, Heart FM DJs will play an inspirational set on a live music truck at the starting line for runners. Bands on the Run is a member of the recently established Music for Birmingham group, a new nonprofit organisation that promotes live music and provides money for musicians and music projects all throughout the Midlands.
Teams from the office will participate in the AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run Business Challenge for fastest time awards and bragging rights among corporate rivals.
