Following a gunshot outside a mosque, the imam dies.

“An imam was killed by gunfire outside a mosque in Newark, New Jersey, on Wednesday morning. According to Newark’s director of public safety, Fritz Frigge, Imam Hasan Sharif was taken to University Hospital in a severe condition. Afterwards, an official who had disclosed investigation data confirmed the Imam’s death. Frigge claims that the gunshots outside the Muhammad Mosque occurred after six in the morning. According to a law enforcement source with knowledge of the matter, when police got at the scene, they saw Sharif, who had been shot many times, laying in the parking lot about 10 feet from the mosque’s door. Sharif’s left hand and abdomen were bullet wounds.

We grieve the passing of a fellow Newark resident and a member of the diverse religious clergy in our community today. As I’m disgusted that a gun has entered our neighbourhood and might potentially kill one of us. I convey my sorrow for Imam Hasan Sharif’s passing, and I hope his family and loved ones find comfort and peace in the words that follow. In a statement, Baraka stated, “Our hearts are broken.”

CAIR-NJ’s communications manager, Deena Sayedahmad, asked anyone with information about the event to contact the local police immediately in a written statement. The investigation is being conducted, according to Governor Phil Murphy, by the New Jersey State Police and his administration. He said, “I know that law enforcement will provide the necessary updates, but at this time, we have no information on the perpetrators or motives behind this incident.” I want to reassure believers and the Muslim community that we will make every effort to uphold everything

Sources claim that after being shot twice, Sharif is in critical condition and is undergoing surgery. Sharif was announced as a member of the mosque’s advisory council for the social services and health programme for 2022–2023. When Sharif was shot, he was reportedly preparing to leave for his daily prayers. According to an article in The Jewish Standard, he had also joined interfaith leaders in climate change marches in Newark in April 2022.

The 37-year-old Saida Maiga, a regular at the Muhammad Mosque, said that Sharif offered her assistance after she converted to Islam in June. She stated, “When I first became Muslim and needed to pray, he was there for me.” “He made sure to come to me to help me learn my prayers to become the best Muslim I could be.” She went on, “Our Islamic community is very saddened and scared by this shooting because (Sharif) is a very beautiful imam who helps everyone.”
