Sources claim that after being shot twice, Sharif is in critical condition and is undergoing surgery. Sharif was announced as a member of the mosque’s advisory council for the social services and health programme for 2022–2023. When Sharif was shot, he was reportedly preparing to leave for his daily prayers. According to an article in The Jewish Standard, he had also joined interfaith leaders in climate change marches in Newark in April 2022.
