A 19th-Century Migration Ship Bound For New York Serves As The Setting For The International Horror Series 1899 On Netflix.

Fans of the popular German supernatural drama Dark will enjoy the new Netflix series 1899, which focuses on the search for missing children in a small town with a sinful past.

1899, a multilingual television series produced by the team of Dark, stands apart because it features characters who will talk in their native tongues. The eight-part drama takes place in 1899, the same year as Dark, but it takes place on a migrant steamer sailing from London to New York, carrying a diverse group of European passengers. This time, all the performers are speaking in their original tongues, and creators Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar are creating something distinctive and novel as usual. Although communication between the individuals may be difficult, they do share the same experience: their dreams of the promised land of America soon transform into terrifying nightmares.

“What really made us connect to this idea was the concept of having a truly European show with a diverse cast from different nations,” the show’s creators Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar stated. The issue of what connects and divides us is at its core. And how the latter can be triggered by fear.”

The information you need regarding the upcoming Netflix horror series 1899 is provided here.

1899 A migratory steamship departs the old continent by sailing west. The passengers, a diverse group of European descent, were brought together by their aspirations for the twenty-first century and their futures abroad. But when they come across another migrant ship drifting on the open sea, their trip takes an unexpected turn. Their journey to the promised land will become a terrifying nightmare because of what they will discover on board.

When the liner Kerberos receives a radio signal from its sister ship Prometheus, it is sailing from Europe to the United States. This is a surprising development considering the Prometheus vanished into thin air four months prior. The Prometheus is deserted when the crew gets on board.

1899 Is True Based Story

‘Dark’ producers have a brand-new Netflix series that combines drama, suspense, and horror. A series called “1899” that depicts a number of actual cases reportedly hooks viewers from the first minute.

A Real Event in 1845

Along with 128 other sailors, British Royal Navy Captain Sir John Franklin attempted to explore the Northwest Passage in 1845 during a daring expedition into the Arctic on the ships HMS Erebus and HMS Terror. A few years after the voyage started, both got stuck in the ice and had to be abandoned.

The crew perished during this time due to a variety of conditions, including hypothermia, scurvy, and malnutrition. In 2014, a Canadian research team discovered the wreckage of the HMS Erebus, and in 2016, the wreckage of the HMS Terror was discovered in Nunavut.

Along with the aforementioned emigrant ships, others that sailed over the Atlantic from Europe, such the Kerberos and the Prometheus in 1899, also provided as inspiration.

Ghost Ship Mysteries

The Mary Celeste ghost ship case is also covered in the television show. This ship was discovered in the Atlantic, close to the Azores Islands, in the nineteenth century.

It was only found, it seems, because another ship was passing close by. The ship was abandoned, and the captain gave the order to search it, but no sign of the passengers was discovered. The discovery of clothing there as well as food rations for six months is even more perplexing.

Bermuda Triangle Mystries

There are also numerous instances of ships that are said to have vanished in the Bermuda Triangle, a region of the North Atlantic Ocean that was long thought to be mysterious.

Being true to the culture and the language is very important, because we never wanted to have characters from different countries, even though they all speak English, the series director Jantje Friese emphasised to Deadline. “The whole European aspect was very important to us, not only for the story but also for how we were going to produce it.”
